Diamond Guide

A diamond’s beauty and value is determined by its cut, color, clarity, and carat weight, known as the 4 Cs. The grades a diamond carries in these four areas give a clear idea of its quality. Together, the 4 Cs provide a comprehensive framework for evaluating a diamond’s quality, ensuring that every choice made reflects the wearer’s desire for excellence and enduring beauty.

Cut

Cut is the most essential characteristic of a diamond, as it has the most impact on its overall appearance. It refers to the arrangement of a diamond’s facets and affects how its surface interacts with and catches light. More than any other characteristic, cut can have the most significant impact on a diamond’s overall beauty and value.

For diamonds 0.30 ct and bigger Lovelei handpicks excellent cut diamonds only. Pavé stones and stones 0.30 ct and smaller will be of very good to excellent cut grade, which is in line with industry standards and what is available on the market. This way the diamond’s brilliance and beauty are maximized. The excellent cut diamonds undergo meticulous grading and selection processes to ensure their precision and craftsmanship meet the highest standards.

Color

The second most important “C” is color, or the actual reference; the absence of color. The closer to colorless a white diamond is, the rarer and more valuable it becomes. Color impacts a diamond´s overall appearance. Even the untrained eye is capable of discerning the color variations between clear and pale yellow hence, color is a major indication of a diamond´s value.

Clarity

Diamond clarity refers to the absence of inclusions and blemishes. It measures the purity of the stone and is graded by the visibility of these characteristics under 10-power magnification. Each inclusion or imperfection will detract from the brilliance and clarity of a polished diamond. The flaw will interfere with the refraction of light as it travels through the diamond. The higher the clarity, the more valuable a diamond will be.

Carat

Diamond carat weight measures how much a diamond weighs, not the size. One carat equals 0.20 grams. Carat weight can appear differently across different diamond shapes. A diamond may have a higher carat weight without appearing larger, and two diamonds of the same carat weight can vary in size if one is cut deeper than the other. This is why carat weight does not necessarily denote size.
