Most people have heard of lab-grown diamonds. Fewer know that the same technology is used to create sapphires, emeralds and rubies of exceptional quality — without mining, without exploitation and without the ethical compromises that come with natural gemstone extraction.
Lovelei is one of very few jewellers in the Nordic region working with lab-grown gemstones beyond diamonds. It is something we are proud of, and something we believe is the future of responsible fine jewelry.
What are lab-grown gemstones?
Lab-grown gemstones are chemically and physically identical to naturally mined ones. A lab-grown sapphire has the same mineral composition, the same hardness and the same deep blue colour as a natural Kashmir sapphire. A lab-grown emerald has the same intense green lustre as a Colombian one. A lab-grown ruby the same deep red glow as a Burmese stone.
The only difference is origin. Natural gemstones form deep within the earth over millions of years. Lab-grown gemstones are created in a controlled environment that replicates the exact geological conditions nature uses — in weeks rather than aeons, and without disturbing a single gram of soil.
Sapphire
Sapphire is one of the hardest gemstones in the world, just below diamond on the Mohs scale. What many people do not know is that sapphire comes in a range of colours — classic blue, aquamarine, pink, green and yellow. Each colour has its own character and creates a completely different expression in a piece of jewelry. At Lovelei you can choose the colour that feels right for you.

Emerald
Emerald is the green gemstone above all others. Its intense colour comes from chromium and vanadium in the crystal structure, and the finest examples have a deep, living green that looks like nothing else. At Lovelei you can choose between different varieties — Colombian emerald with its warm, intensely green tone, or Zambian with a deeper, more blue-green character.
An emerald as a centre stone in an engagement ring, or as an accent stone in a fine necklace, makes a genuine statement. It is not the obvious choice — and that is precisely what makes it right for someone who wants something that truly stands out.

Ruby
Ruby has for centuries symbolised passion, courage and love. A ruby as a centre stone is a bold and personal choice — a stone with history, character and an expression unlike anything else.

Why Lovelei works with lab-grown gemstones
Not because it is the easy choice. Because it is the right one.
Every stone we use is traceable to a controlled production process. No land destruction, no ethical questions around origin, no compromise on quality. And the result is a stone that is physically and chemically identical to what nature creates — made with a clear conscience.
That is what responsible luxury means to us.
Can I choose a gemstone other than a diamond for my ring?
Yes. We work with lab-grown sapphires, emeralds and rubies as centre stones or accent stones in rings, necklaces and earrings. If you have something specific in mind that you do not see in our collection, please get in touch. Custom work is something we love doing.
